Canon City, CO to Fairplay, CO (elev 9953ft) - 72 miles
Got another shot of Royal Gorge in the morning before we got back on the route.
Lots of climbing today, about 3,500 ft. Incredible views helped the long day pass. Caught a glimpse of our first bison way off in a big meadow. It was a long and slow day and filled with variable weather.
Becca and I got caught in a couple of nasty hailstorms that were just sweeping through the mountains. I dont if I ever been through a hail storm like those though, especially not going 15-30 mph in the flats and down the hills which where we were at the time. It felt like hundreds of bb's were being shot into my face and any exposed extremities, hardcore. But we kept going. We've been caught in some good storms along the way and they do little more than to bring an exciting challenege.
I had a great milkshake at the HOB in Harstel, CO.
Terrible headwind the last 15 miles into Fairplay, that was rough. We camped along a river and it was one of the coldest nights, if not the coldest, of the trip so far.
