7-5 Sunday

Pueblo, CO to Canon City, CO - 62.18 miles

Wow, what a day. Coming off the fireworks of the 4th, all I needed was a big breakfast at the local diner, the Tour De France on tv, I felt like I had the power of Lance and powered on through the day. Our first real view of the mountains up close, and the terrain of the "West". Rocky cliffs, sandy land, sagebrush everywhere, this is definitely the west.

We got a close up view of the ever variable mountain weather as a storm passed across the peaks of the mountains to our west as we rode into Cañon City, CO.

We finished off the day with a great look at the Royal Gorge Bridge. What a tourist trap though. For $24 you can go to the animal park, walk across the bridge, yada yada yada. We went on the little path offset the parking lot and got a great view of everything for free.

Our campsite, on the top of that mountain, was less that a half mile from the bridge. It felt like our first real camping because the elements had changed so drastically from what we were used to. High elevation, cold, and the bear-proof trash containers, oh boy.
